Midtown Houston, TX Public Safety Alert to effectively address the needs of people living on Midtown Houston's streets

Addressing Homelessness in Midtown Houston

Public Safety Alert

To effectively address the needs of people living on Midtown Houston's streets, the Public Safety Committee is partnering with SEARCH Homeless Services's Homeless Outreach Specialist for the next 18 months. The Specialist will work in tandem with law enforcement to identify and connect individuals experiencing homelessness to services and long-term supportive housing.

A critical part of this project is providing street-based case management that is personalized, trauma-informed, and evidence-based. The Specialist focuses on a person’s individual needs to provide appropriate services. The ultimate goal is to get at-risk and homeless individuals into permanent supportive housing. Since the initiative began, 201 individuals have been contacted, with 57% signing up for SEARCH services. Click here for a complete list of social services in the area.

The Committee is encouraged by this project because it is neighborhood-based, allowing the Specialist to include input from you. Your help lets us know where people are congregating, what services are needed, and who is most ready for assistance.

We encourage you to stay involved with Midtown Houston and welcome you to our monthly virtual Public Safety Committee meeting. Our next meeting will be held virtually on Tuesday, June 15th at 11:30am.

Making Midtown Houston the model of safety!
